News for April 19, 2018

Haven’t posted here lately, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. Over the past couple of months, I have joined a new writer’s group, continued work on the fourth novel in the Edward Red Mage series, and attended one of my favorite little local events, the Southampton County Ren Faire.
The Faire started ten years ago as a fundraised for the Courtland, Virginia public library, with a few vendors and performers set up in an empty lot behind the library. Now it fills up the local county fairgrounds. I’ve known some of the Faire participants much longer than ten years, and I wasn’t surprised that I sold copies of my third mystery to some of them. What did surprise me (pleasantly) was when a woman came up, told me a friend had loaned her the first book in my series, and now she wanted to buy all three. Who knows, maybe this “struggling self-published author” thing is going somewhere?
In the meantime, I’m afraid I won’t be able to attend this weekend’s RavenCon in Williamsburg VA, due to my not-so-secret identity as a librarian (i.e. I have to go to work). However, my long time editor/writing mentor Leona Wisoker will be there at the Scribbling Lion table, with books by the both of us as well as by other local authors. If you’re there, be sure to say hi. And bringing coffee probably wouldn’t hurt.
