Three of Swords, Two of Rods, reversed, the Hierophant
Oh boy. It’s going to be 2020 all week long. The Three of Swords represents absence, sorrow, separation, and delay; in other words, everything we have been experiencing during the pandemic. The reversed Two of Rods can carry a similar meaning of trouble and sadness, imposed on us by outside forces.
The Hierophant card, with its collection of religious symbols, can bear conflicting meanings. As a symbol of religious orthodoxy, it can represent inactivity, adherence to ritual, and devotion to outmoded ideas. But as a symbol of faith and belief, it can represent inspiration, kindness, mercy, and forgiveness. Given this choice, I will go with the second interpretation: Be kind. Be merciful, especially to yourself. Forgive yourself for being something other than perfect in your reaction to this sorrowful world. And remember—we’ve made it through another week.
Love to you all, Angela
